We believe that we are guided by a prophet that is here living on the earth today. Thomas S. Monson is our prophet. Throughout history God has chosen prophets to help us - Moses, Abraham, Noah and others to help teach His gospel and lead His Church. After the church was restored Heavenly Father wanted us to be guided in the latter-days. Joseph Smith became the first prophet of our times.

I would like to share with you some points from an article that an elder in our church gave about why eternal marriage is important.
The article is called "Marriage Is Essential To His Eternal Plan" by Elder David A. Bednar
"...the sanctity of marriage is attacked and the importance of the home is undermined."
"...no instrumentality or organization can take the place of the home or perform its essential functions."
Why marriage is essential -
Reason
1: The natures of male and female spirits complete and perfect each
other, and therefore men and women are intended to progress together
toward exaltation.
Reason 2: By divine design, both a
man and a woman are needed to bring children into mortality and to
provide the best setting for the rearing and nurturing of children.
